Low or dirty transmission fluid can cause delayed shifting. Make sure the fluid is at the correct level and in good condition. If it’s dirty, consider having it replaced. If after replacement the issue still persist then an expert would have to check it.

Delayed shifting in your Land Rover Discovery's automatic transmission means that it's taking too long to switch gears. It will feel like the car is slipping. One possible cause could be low transmission fluid levels or dirty fluid. If it's low or dirty, the transmission can't work properly. Another issue might be a faulty throttle position sensor. This is what tells the transmission when to shift gears. It could be that the transmission's computer, called the TCU, needs an update or is malfunctioning. Once all these are in good condition, the issue will be resolved.

When transmission related issues are reported in Land Rovers, it generally would be from the transmission fluid. It could be that the transmission fluid is not up to optimal level or it has been contaminated. You could check the transmission fluid to top it up or change it as the case may be. If that is fixed and the slow transmission still persists, it could be the transmission sensors are bad or the solenoids are bad. For this, a good automobile mechanic would detect and replace either the sensor or the solenoid.

To help the original poster diagnose the issue more, can he or she let us know how old the Land Rover is and the mileage it has traveled? Does the car also have slipping or hard shifts when transmitting?
