Ford Recalls Trucks With Diesel Engines Over Potential Secondary Fuel Filter Leak

Ford Recalls Trucks With Diesel Engines Over Potential Secondary Fuel Filter Leak

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021 Super Duty F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550, F-600, and Medium Duty F-650 and F-750 vehicles equipped with 6.7L diesel engines. Fuel may leak from the top of the vehicles secondary fuel filter cap due to a small void in its underhood cap. This recall effects approximately 19,697 Ford trucks.

The Problem

The National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports a small void may be present in the top-center of the vehicle’s underhood secondary fuel filter cap, which may progress to a pinhole over time, allowing fuel to leak from the top of the secondary fuel filter.

While the chance of experiencing a fire due to a diesel leak is much lower than with a gasoline engine, the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire or may create a slick surface for other drivers.

The Fix

Ford dealers will replace the primary and secondary fuel filters at no cost to the owner.
