Ford is recalling approximately 330,784 Mustang vehicles for a defect with the rear view camera system. NHTSA reports that drivers may experience a blank or distorted display.
The Problem
NHTSA documents detail two reasons for the recall. The first is an issue related to a rigid scroll tube used in the deck lid for the camera wiring. Over time as the vehicle owner opens and closes the deck lid (trunk lid), the scroll tube damages the wiring. This may lead to to a loss of electrical conductivity to the camera.
The second reason for the recall is over wiring that may of been twisted during the assembly process.
A rear view camera that intermittently displays a blank or distorted image can reduce the driver’s view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
The Fix
Ford dealers will will inspect and repair the deck lid wiring harness and/or replace the rear view camera if required. This fix is at no cost to the owner.
